Haller
Park - Bamburi
The
Haller park - formerly Bamburi Nature Trail
is the largest animal sanctuary in
Mombasa. The park boasts
an
enormous variety of animals,
reptiles, insects and botanical gardens.
Walking along the trail is the ideal way
to look at the various animals, and on
many occasions holding or feeding a
reptile such as a snake is allowed under
close supervision of a guide.
Educational videos are also shown, with
emphasis on the the history and
continuous improvement of the trail. It
was previously a barren piece of land
that had been stripped of its resources
through limestone mining, and was
redeveloped through reforestation and
conservation efforts, and is now a
habitat for a large number of flora and
fauna species.

Mamba
Village is East Africa’s largest crocodile
farm. A tour of the farm starts with a movie
on the life cycle and
 behaviour of
crocodiles, followed by a comprehensive tour
of the rest of farm, and ends with the
highlight of the day: a spectacular scene of
blood-thirsty crocodiles fighting for food
during feeding time.
Excellent
cuisine is available at the Mamba
Restaurant, and the house specialty is
superbly grilled crocodile meat. Souvenirs
of your visit can be bought at the Mamba
Souvenir shop located within the village

Mombasa Marine National
Park & Reserve
The park is 10 km2 while the reserve is
200 km2. Both the park and reserve are marine protected areas . Their coastline is heavily
developed with tourist facilities. One can hire boats to get into the Marine Park or
water sports facilities.
The place is ideal for diving.
Kisite Marine Park
and Mpunguti Reserve
Kisite and Mpunguti Marine Parks are located on the
south coast off Shimoni and south of Wasini Island in Kwale The complex covers
a marine area with four small islands surrounded by coral-reef. Kisite island is a small waterless coral island, 8 km offshore in
the Marine Park. Coral platforms around the raised central portion
are exposed at low tide. The three other coral islets in the park
(Mpunguti ya Juu, Mpunguti ya Chini and Liwe la Jahazi) lie closer
to the larger Wasini Island, are scrub covered and support no significant
wildlife or birds. The surrounding waters have well developed coral
gardens and a large variety of fish.

Shimba Hills
National Reserve
Only 56km south of Mombasa, this reserve
is a great option for holidaymakers who fancy a day
away from the town and the beach. It is the
only reserve in the country where you will see
sable antelope, a tall sleek animal with
beautiful horns which is unfortunately hunted
for meat elsewhere. The reserve has rolling
hills covered in jungle and grassland. At the
baited water hole at Shimba Lodge it is possible
that you will see leopard and plenty of elephant. Shimba Lodge is a
charming Treetops-type lodge with plenty of
atmosphere.Back to

The Bombolulu workshops
The Bombolulu

the physically disabled" and employs
150-disabled craftsmen/women who produce jewellery, handprinted textiles, wood
carvings and leather crafts. The

Wasini
Island
Only five kilometres long and one
across, Wasini
is a great place to escape to. Heavily wooded
with no cars, roads or running water, you are
guaranteed peace here. It takes a couple of
hours to stroll around the island on narrow
footpaths and en route you will come across
Muslim ruins, local women and men at work in the
sun, and coral gardens which you can walk
through - rather like snorkelling on land.
Occasionally during spring tides, these gardens
are claimed back by the sea when the tides rush
in. Wasini Restaurant runs a regular boat
service between Shimoni and the island.
