Shela Village
Shela village is a tangle of narrow alleys, tall
stone houses, small thatched houses, mosques,
ruins and a spacious square ringed with a few

Palm House is designed around an open courtyard.
The living and dining areas look onto the
courtyard and a small side garden. The house has
two doubles and one twin bedroom on the first
floor, all en-suite with private balconies. The
second floor has an open terrace, which leads
off to a small covered baraza area in front of
the fourth bedroom. The master bedroom has a
Lamu four-poster bed and balconies on two sides.

Privately owned, Kizingo beach resort is a
secluded and tranquil escape from the modern
world. It is located 12-kilometre from the
village of Shela. It has six beautifully
appointed bandas (cottages), with high-pitched
thatched roofs and shaded balconies with
uninterrupted ocean views. Each has a large
double bed draped with mosquito netting and

double bedrooms, oner with two large four-poster

and terrace provide additional lounging areas.

are double occupancy. There is a restaurant downstairs, which organise meals that include seafood and Swahili dishes.
Everything is fresh -- there is no frozen food, or frozen smiles. Fresh
breezes from the Indian Ocean ventilate all rooms, which have
mosquito nets. The management can design
romantic dhow trips to Kiwayu, Matondoni Village, the ruins, fishing and
snorkeling.

Island, one of the many unspoilt, idyllic
islands to be found in the r omantic Lamu
archipelago.
Manda Bay lies in calm inshore waters on a long
sandy protected beach. With miles of soft white
sand, fascinating creeks and small islets to
explore it makes a perfect retreat for both
family groups and honeymooners alike.
Accommodation consists of ten cottages
constructed from local material. Five rooms are
set
right on the seafront and five are set
in-between and slightly behind the ocean rooms
on higher ground.
Having its own private, fully fitted 60foot
traditional dhow - Utamaduni -
it's possible by arrangement to organize 2/3 day
cruises exploring the uninhibited islands of
