Shela village is a tangle of narrow alleys, tall stone houses, small thatched houses, mosques, ruins and a spacious square ringed with a few market stalls. It is here that you will find most accommodation

Shela Village Palm House
 
Palm House is designed around an open courtyard. The living and dining areas look onto the courtyard and a small side garden. The house has two doubles and one twin bedroom on the first floor, all en-suite with private balconies. The second floor has an open terrace, which leads off to a small covered baraza area in front of the fourth bedroom. The master bedroom has a Lamu four-poster bed and balconies on two sides.

Kizingo beach resort
 
Privately owned, Kizingo beach resort is a secluded and tranquil escape from the modern world. It is located 12-kilometre from the village of Shela. It has six beautifully appointed bandas (cottages), with high-pitched thatched roofs and shaded balconies with uninterrupted ocean views. Each has a large double bed draped with mosquito netting and comfortable.

Shela Village Shela House
 
The house is built on three floors around an open courtyard. The entrance hall leads into the courtyard, edged by a baraza sitting and eating area. There are five ensuite bedrooms - three double bedrooms, oner with two large four-poster single beds and a smaller single bedroom. There is also a nursery room. A second floor dayroom and terrace provide additional lounging areas.

Peponi Hotel
 
Right on the beach of Shela, 15 minutes by dhow from Lamu, is Peponi Hotel. With a total of only 25 Swahili influenced rooms spread throughout a garden of palm trees, frangipani and bougainvillea, this personal, family run hotel, rates as one of the great little hotels in the world.
 
Shela Bahari Guest House
 
is right on the beach of Shela, it has 5 rooms, one of which is a triple.  The remaining are double occupancy.   There is a restaurant downstairs, which organise meals that include seafood and Swahili dishes.  Everything is fresh -- there is no frozen food, or frozen smiles.  Fresh breezes from the Indian Ocean ventilate all rooms, which have mosquito nets.  The management can design romantic dhow trips to Kiwayu, Matondoni Village, the ruins, fishing and snorkeling.

A large house with four double and one triple, en-suite bedrooms. It has a fresh water swimming pool, a bar area and low comfortable baraza seats. On first floor is a large dining and living room. The third floor comprises three bedrooms and an open terrace. From the rooftop you can enjoy panoramic views of the whole of  Lamu channel

Manda Bay
 
Manda Bay is located on the North-western tip of Manda Island, one of the many unspoilt, idyllic islands to be found in the romantic Lamu archipelago. Manda Bay lies in calm inshore waters on a long sandy protected beach. With miles of soft white sand, fascinating creeks and small islets to explore it makes a perfect retreat for both family groups and honeymooners alike.

Accommodation consists of ten cottages constructed from local material. Five rooms are set right on the seafront and five are set in-between and slightly behind the ocean rooms on higher ground.

Having its own private, fully fitted 60foot traditional dhow - Utamaduni - it's possible by arrangement to organize 2/3 day cruises exploring the uninhibited islands of this fascinating archipelago.
